EHSS POLICY

  

National Energy Corporation of Trinidad and Tobago Limited (NEC) is a wholly-owned subsidiary of the National Gas Company of Trinidad and Tobago Limited (NGC) Group with the core business of conceptualization, promotion, development and facilitation of new energy-based and downstream industries in Trinidad and Tobago.

At NEC, we have a strong commitment to the Environment, Health & Safety at our workplace and integrate EHS policies into our daily business operations. We are dedicated to maintaining the health and safety of employees, suppliers, contractors, and stakeholders, as well as preserving the integrity of our environment.

It is our policy at NEC to

  • Prevent accidents and cases of work-related ill health and provide adequate control of health and safety risks arising from work activities by eliminating or minimising risks to as low as is reasonably practicable, consistent with our operations.
  • Integrate EHS concerns into business decisions and engage in continuous EHS improvements by setting expectations and objectives and reviewing, monitoring and auditing performance.
  • Engage in Environmental Stewardship focusing on sustainable development, conservation of our natural resources, pollution prevention and waste minimization.
  • Comply with all applicable regulatory requirements and industry best practices.
  • Implement EHS standards, systems, processes and programs to minimise the risk to our employees, suppliers, contractors, and stakeholders and the environment.
  • Take into account stakeholder EHS concerns through involving and consulting with employees, communities in which we operate, governmental authorities, customers and any other interested party.
  • Communicate to all our stakeholders on our EHS Performance and participate in the advancement and promotion of EHS wherever possible, in partnership with government and other organizations.

NEC’s Executive Management is committed to the implementation and maintenance of a framework to deliver on the commitments made within this Policy as our goal is to be recognised as an industry leader in EHS management.

  •   Ports, Piers, Docks and Harbour Development and Construction
  •   Industrial Estate and Port Management
  •   Pier and Terminal Operations
  •   Tugs, Workboats and Harbour Operations
  •   Head Office Operations.

The local legislative prescriptions and requirements relevant to NEC’s operations and projects mandate include but are not limited to:

  •   The Environmental Management Act No.3, 2000
  •   The Occupational Safety and Health Act No.1, 2004 (Amended 2006)
  •   The Anti-Terrorism Act No.26, 2005
  •   The Shipping (Ship and Port Facility Security) Regulations (ISPS Code 2004)
  •   The Shipping (Marine Pollution) No. 2 Bill, 2004
