The Christmas spirit was evident in NEC during the month of December. The company identified several stakeholders within its fence line communities and donated various household hampers, kitchen wares, and even a newly constructed home for one family in Galeota.
For the past five (5) years, NEC has partnered with the Couva Home for the Aged, providing its residents with “Care-Packs” on an annual basis. Each Care-Pack is filled with medical supplies, toiletries and even a bottle of wine. The Care-Packs were handed over in mid December when ten (10) NEC employees visited to home to bring Christmas cheer in the form of smiles and Christmas carols.
Thru NEC’s Employee Philantrophy Programme, over 50 needy families throughout T&T received food hampers during December-prior to Christmas day. The hampers were wide-reaching as families from Central, Guayaguayare and La Brea benefited from the donations. Included in the hamper distribution was:
-
Afeesha and Narissa Khalice and family: two extremely underprivileged sisters in the Guayaguayare area.
-
Ms. Sherry Francis in La Brea-Ms. Francis conducts a homework center for children in La Brea- at no cost.
-
Grace Children Home: a home for underprivileged children in Couva.
During the month of December NEC also commenced construction on a house for Afeesha and Narissa Khalice and their three children. The material for the project was purchased by NEC who then partnered with the Las Savanne Village Council for the supply of labor to construct the sixteen by twenty feet (16F*20F) structure.
It was hoped that the structure would have been completed before Christmas but the inclement weather along with a shortage of labor has pushed the project’s completion date to the end of January.
NEC also repainted the Grace Home for the Age in Couva. The home currently houses seven (7) children (age 10 to 21), one of whom is in her second (2nd) year at The University of the West Indies. The children were either abandoned or have lost their parents to crime. The company donated Thirty (30) gallons of paint which was used to paint six (6) rooms in house. NEC employees were the sole participants in this initiative.
