For many small contractors the tendering process can be confusing and difficult to circumnavigate. The reams of paper-work coupled with stringent deadlines often leave small contractors failing to meet tender requirements, while larger more knowledgeable contractors often win the bidding wars.
After receiving several incomplete tender packages from small contractors in its fence-line communities, National Energy Corporation Ltd. (NEC) partnered with the National Entrepreneurship Development Company Ltd. (NEDCO,) to provide free training to small contractors in these communities in an effort to promote institutional strengthening and capacity building.
NEC also partnered with the National Energy Skills Center (NESC) as they presented information on NESC’s Work Force Assessment Centers. These facilities cater to the needs of uncertified individuals who have acquired a certain level of knowledge and skill through work and life experiences. It allows for these individuals to be formally certified.
The sessions, hosted by veteran procurement specialist Sandra Barrat, began on Tuesday June 7th 2011 in Guayaguayare, with such an overwhelming positive response that another session was held in Guayaguayare on Friday June 17th 2011. Two more sessions were later held in La Brea on Wednesday June 22nd 2011 and on Friday June 24th 2011.
NEC, in its commitment to stimulating the micro- economies of its partner communities, intends to continue providing relevant training to these communities.
