Once again, staff of NEC have answered the call to make a difference in our neighbouring community. For the second year, staff responded generously to the call to give towards the purchase of shoes for the children of Claxton Bay Junior Anglican Primary School. In fact, the response was so overwhelming that we were able to purchase the 23 pairs of shoes and socks requested, and had surplus funds.
The charitable spirit displayed through these and other activities has led to the formulation of the NEC ‘Philanthropes’ Initiative which will see staff becoming more actively involved in making a tangible difference in the communities in which the company operates. Throughout the year, various departments will host in‑house fundraising ventures such as cake sales, mini-concerts, bingo, etc. Monies generated from these activities will go towards the NEC ‘Philanthropes’ Fund which will be used in turn to assist the less fortunate in our communities.
On Friday, 4 March 2011 (Carnival Friday), the Administration Department took the lead by holding a breakfast sale, and in April we were able to purchase two wheelchairs for the residents of the Helena Charles Home For Senior Citizens in La Brea, financed by the NEC ‘Philanthropes’ Fund.
Judging from these results, NEC ‘Philanthropes’ has got off to a solid start. We would like to sincerely thank and congratulate staff on their continued generosity and keen sense of social responsibility.
