Shhh! Guayaguayare R.C. Primary School has a New Library
Thanks to National Energy Corporation Limited (NEC) the Guayaguayare R.C. Primary School has a brand new Library facility designed, with the support of the National Library and Information Systems Authority (NALIS), to meet the needs of students and residents of Mayaro.
NEC, in its pledge to promote sustainability through the stimulation of the local economy in its fence line communities and in an effort to promote institutional strengthening and capacity building, also partnered with members of the Mayaro community to refurbish the Guayaguayare R.C. Primary School’s Library.
The school has long been in need of this new facility, which has been outfitted with the latest technology including desk top computers, a flat screen television, a multi-media projector and the most modern educational software.
Speaking at the official opening of the Library on Tuesday May 10th 2011 at the school’s compound at Warrick Street, New Lands Village, Guayaguayare, the Minister of Arts and Multiculturalism and MP for Mayaro, the Honourable Winston Peters, commended NEC for its continued commitment to his community of Mayaro. He highlighted that the “Library Project must be seen as a vehicle to drive the creative and intellectual capacity and resourcefulness of our youth” and dedicated himself to ensuring that the additional requirements for the Library be provided.
President of NEC, Mr. Andrew Jupiter, in his address, assured those gathered that NEC is committed to going beyond what can reasonably be expected in terms of Corporate Social Responsibility. He stressed that “building communities must not just be an activity that we do, it must become a part of who we are. We are committed to the empowerment and development of people.”
This project is but one in NEC’s strategic Community Relations Plan which focuses on creating opportunities for developing sustainable communities in the areas in which NEC operates.
