Essay Competition

On Wednesday May 4th 2011 the Energy Sector Corporate Social Responsibility Coordinating Task Force held an award ceremony to celebrate the winners of the Energy Sector CSR Task Force National Secondary School’s Essay Competition, at the Petrotrin Staff Club, Point-a-Pierre.

This event was held under the patronage of the Minister of Energy and Energy Affairs, the Honourable Carolyn Seepersad- Bachan, who delivered the feature address.

The Competition, which is co-sponsored by National Energy Corporation, The National Gas Company of Trinidad and Tobago Limited (NGC), Petrotrin and Lake Asphalt of Trinidad and Tobago, targeted all Secondary School Students in forms 5 and 6. The essay topic was “The Role of the State Energy Sector in National Development.”

In first and second place respectively were Mr Isaiah Matomoro and Ms. Rebekah Latchman both of Miracle Ministries Pentecostal High-School. Tied for 3rd place was Ms. Deidre Subran- Gannesh of Lakshmi Girls’ High School and Ms. Asabi Rawlins of Naparima Girls’ High School. Each student received a laptop computer while the respective schools received cash awards

The Energy Sector CSR Coordinating Task Force has been established to coordinate the Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) programmes within the state-owned energy sector. The mandate of the Task Force is to promote closer collaboration within the energy sector with regard to Public Education and Community Development.
